I dont ave an air pump on mine, but from what I remember the air pumps adds fresh air as the exhaust exits the combustion chamber. I had one go bad on an old Capri, after I removed it I had serious idle problems.

Not knowing what the smog laws are where you live I can't say what you can get rid off and still pass smog.

HC= hydro carbon aka unburnt fuel
CO= carbon monoxide partialy burnt fuel
CO2= carbon dioxide product of complete combustion

Air pump. Is used to add air into the exhaust to reduce the HC and CO emissions by increasing the amount of O2 in the exhaust for the cat converter to finish converting the HC into CO2 and H2O and the CO into CO2.

Cat converter. 3 types in use reducing cat, oxidizing cat, and both combinded in one cat. The reducing cat is used to break up the NOx emissions into N and O2. The oxidizing cat is used to reduce HC and CO emissions.

EGR. Recirculates exhaust gas into the combustion chamber to reduce NOx emissions by reducing combustion chamber temps and lowering the amount of O2 that can react with the N to form NOx.

Charcoal canister. Used to reduce the HC emissions from the fuel tank. It absords the HC gasses that build up in the gas tank and stores it until the engine is running under certain parameters then it releases the HC into the engine to be burned.

Generally speaking all the emissions equipment can be removed.

There is no reason to remove the charcoal canister unless you are trying to remove every once you can for a track only car.

The rest of it can be removed unless your car has to be smog checked then it depends on what they look for.
