need more info.. did everything work right when you dropped of the car? what service did they perform? etc.. sounds like someone FUBAR'd the harness..hard to say though.. the switch on the ebrake housing controls the center console "brake" light, as does the seatbelt sensor, works just like a door pin switch..in fact, its the same exact switch if i remember correctly... dome light staying on indicates a constant ground where there should only be a momentary one.. these symptons sound like a ground wire problem, or a hot wire spliced in, maybe pinched, the grounding circuit some how.. shorting it.. all this at once though, definatley sounds like someone screwed up the service work, whatever that was....

There are a few possibilities as to why the fans don't work. It is conceivable that the switch in the rad is not working, or the relay or fuse are bad. However it's even more likely that the wiring is messed up - bad ground or whatever.

Here's the article you need to read with full detail on how to diagnose (including the relevant part of the wiring diagram for the fans). You will need a multimeter, about $20 at Radio Shack, Home Depot, etc. Hint - get a digital one. Test lights are inadequate for this kind of work.

I agree, this is the most important, everything else is annoyances. How's the trans, did they fix the shifting?

well the shifter is great the work that was done seems ok for 1300 dollars it should be. the fans arent cycling and yes eveything work before they got it. are there any harnesses in the area they would have been working on? the trans area or by the linkage?

if they were messing around in the shifter area, there seatbelt sensor wires in that area, and a small harness that runs under the console for the reverse switch and such...and if i recal, theres also a large ground wire on the bellhousing..if they didnt reconnect any of those, or pinched them, that could cause some of the problems youve indicated..i dont think that should affect the cooling fans , but you never know..sounds like your going to have to inspect those wiring points, and look for signs of distruction.. if you verify you have 12volts going in to one side of the temp switch, you know your getting power there. if you jump the temp switch spades at the radiator, the fans should come on, indicating a bad sensor. if they dont come on, youve got a power problem of some sorts, or a bad grounding circiut, which you can trace from the fan motor wiring....

as for my crunched 87, yep, that sucked..but i actually did okay on it in the end after the insurance settlement, and they let me keep it, and i sold it to a fellow rennlister... it now lives in the chicago area and has been repaired completly last i heard....

could be they didn't bleed the coolant properly, bleed it again... check the levels in the expansion tank to make sure they are between the min/max lines. Also check that the wires are connected to the coolant sensor at the back of the head.
If you are unsure about the fan operation just use a couple of jumper wires and connect straight to battery.

As far as the brake light on the console, it is activated by both the hand brake switch and the master cylinder switch (the same one that turns on your brake lights). The one on the multiguage is activated only by the hand brake switch. So, the first thing I would check is that the plug on the master cylinder switch is attached properly. If that is OK, have someone watch your brake lights while you step on the brake. If the are not working, replace the switch.
