As I have been doing performance and cosmetic modefications, I was looking at my wallet and wondering if this is an endless money pit. I've got around $1100 in to the car already, and I haven't painted it. How much have you wasted, excuse me, put forth to the better good of your 924?

I've got about $400 in mine. Lol. I hope to have the car finished nicely around $2,000. I bought it for $200, and I have just gotten basic things.... spark plugs, gaskets, distributor stuff...spark wires... the basics. Unfortunately I'm getting into things like the WUR, and the cold start valve, both a little pricey for a 17 year old. Haha. Well, I must say, I am jsut glad to have achieved my dream...Owning a Porsche.

It's not endless but you can easily outspend the value of the car. If you go to my website and look at the 924 restoration, you can see all the work that has been done and the running total ...

The only thing left is some engine work and the 924 will literally be as good as new.

I think I spent more than the $1100 re-conditioning the 924S and I'm about to re-do the entire stereo system.

Car $600
Water pump $80
Radiator service $150
Paints, adhesives, fluids and such $200
Smile on wife's face $Priceless

CDN funds.

931 - different story, but ongoing so no real totals yet.

944? I don't want to know. I could have had a couple of 951s with what I've spent. But it has been over 13 years, I guess...

Currently a little over 2 grand. Pocket change. . Paid way way way waaaaay too much I should have dickered just a little bit harder, $1400. Bloody hell. In any case, I was good for it, and I ordered a lot of nickel & dime stuff (plugs, wires, cap, exhaust gaskets, oil pressure sender, misc) from mid-american for about $400, and the rest is belts & wires, starter from NAPA, brake pads from Ebay. I have budgeted for about $4000, so I guess I'm about half way there. (heads/paint/interior need lots of help)

Stuff that was my fault? A little over three grand...

Mechanically? Probably just over two grand. But that's over nearly six years, so not too bad, IMHO.

You have to be kidding.

I stopped counting. But you see it does not matter. For me it is a hobby and you will NEVER get back what you put into it. Never. Unless your time is worthless.

Many of the guys and gals on this list should not own a foreign car. The parts are too expensive. I just bought a grill and a front bumper for a Chevy Blazer S10 for a total of 80 dollars. Nothing on the Porsches comes close to that price.

You are hanging on a car that you think is going to free the next time you fix it. Well, it does not work that way especially with a 20-30 year old car. Trust me I know.

I suggest that if you have to bitch about it then I suggest you buy something else. I have had a couple of guys wanting to buy parts from me and then email me to tell me that some minor part broke and they can not afford my used parts. The part they have to replace costs about
20 dollars and they back off and do not want the parts. If $20 breaks you then I would give you the parts free. Techno Duck came and I gave him parts, Peter I gave the rims to, Rob O came and went home with something extra, etc.

These are expensive cars to maintain and fix. Cannot afford it? Buy something else. Speaking as a Porsche owner for 37 years I think I know.

I agree somewhat with Vince...but I've only owned Porsches for about 32 years.

My 931 has cost me a little over $15000 (including the $4500 purchase price) since I bought it in 1993.

Purchase: about 6000$
Restoring engine: 2000$
Parts from Porsche: No idea, probably 7000$
Paintjob: 2000$
Insurance (four years): 7500$
Fuel, oils, etc: 15000$
Mechanics bills: probably around 1500$
Partscar: 1000$
Transport of partscar: 600$

Total (not counting gasoline, isurance, partscar, etc): 18500$ that I can remember, probably closer to 20000$, though.

What's my prize?

83000 kms driven, worth every krone. (Our currency)

It's a 1984 NA, I bought it on August 31st 2001.

Or is it Kronas?
