I know theres a few people here from florida I Say hows it goin
I have a friend who drove down to....
'My bud' ... So he decides to drive down there and take what he thought would be a good crew, He was affered a job from Emergency relief Inc. He just arrived last friday. His job is to lay down plastic over
roof damaged houses.. Hes liven in a large conex & eating military MRE's. Was it a big gamble to drive 3500 miles in hope of a big payday.
'no ' he didnt drive a porsche. Hes getting ready to learn how to rope alligators though as there everywhere...its a 500 dollar fine to feed them. Lets see you cant be out after 7:00pm for 'looting' reasons. You know that place
was hurricane alley here a short while ago. He wanted me to go though I
choose not to. I get to watch Mount St. Helens explode if it does from my job site where I work. http://www.1620broadway.com/

Downtown? Looks like a nice job site but I hate the downtown parking. You know the Job site superintendent only scheduled 4 days in for you to rock that place.

its a mess down here....my power finally came back on today, out for better than a week this time around..after francis, i couldnt even get home for a week so i guess thats a slight improvement..the people are tired, cranky, and depressed , and understandibly so.. there are still many area with no power..there are food lines in places still..many have completely lost their homes..
i was very lucky, lost alot of shingle, and some of my vinyl siding, half of my facia, and some other issues..all during gene, only had landscape damage from francis..my royal palm is blocking my front door and is a lost cause at this point..francis blew it over and i propped it up, but gene twisted it around again and tossed it the other way, root base looks to be shattered, which is a tree killer when that happens from what i understand..it was such a nice tree too...
the biggest problem right now is the influx of out of state "contractors", theyre ripping people off left and right..and taking advantage of the situation and its distgusting..not that many of the workers comming in arent appreciated, its just that the con artists and theives are also coming in force and making a horrible situation worse for people who arent carefull , or are desparate to have repairs made..
the news isnt showing allot of the damage, its an election year after all ...but i can tell you what ive seen with my own eyes..and thats homes completely destroyed, people sleeping outside in pup tents, whole families living intheir cars, many elderly people without food or any help at all..fema is doing some, but its not nearly enough.. the government has the resources to help these people and their turning the little help they do get into a political statement.. i see no army tent villiages or any thing of the sort..ive seen not a single army corps of engineers helping to clear debris or providing support..ive seen nothing like that at all and it makes me pretty mad..if theyre out there helping, i havent seen a single shred of them..and ive been all through southern florida in the past few days, on well traveled and less traveld areas..parts of okeechobie look like a war zone..and the people are outside in the heat and rain...
i offered my 5th wheel to a family who lost their home, i wish i could do more..but dont let the media spin fool you, florida is in deep troupble and people are suffering..and the media and feds are making like everythings just ducky..its sickening...

Wow. Sounds like you got out well compared to others! Earlier this year when I was looking for work I got pretty far along in interviews with a company in Orlando. I was kind of disappointed when I wound up in the exotic location of San Antonio, Texas. Guess I was kind of lucky.

just to add, i wasnt slamming the army in my post above, those were just examples.. we know the government has massive warehouses with tents and necessary supplies for the armed services, im appauled that these werentbrought out for this distaster to help the people here ...

i consider myself very fortunate, comming out with under 10k in damage and with a habitable home (which i just bought a month and a half ago) and it still amazes me since my home was on the leading edge of the strom in Port ST. Lucie....some of my neighbors werent nearly as lucky...

this was a freak thing though, the chances of two storms folowing such close paths are astronimical, and the chances of so many storms hitting the same state in such a short time are even higher id imagine...

services are being restored rapidly, but in outlying areas its still going to be a very long time before anything gets back to "normal" .......

Maybe if Kerry wins he'll have the common sense to bring home some badly needed troops so they can work for people who will appreciate it.
