Pulled my very first spark plug this evening & went to put in the replacement when I noticed the end of the old one (the end to which the lead attaches) is an external thread & the end of the new one is an internal thread (can post a pic if necessary). The new plug doesn't go into the old lead!

Is this a function of the plugs being the wrong ones or do I need to get a set of leads into which the new plugs will fit? I definitely specified the plugs were for an '82 924 so I can take 'em back & get the right ones if I need to do so.

Dunno if there's some difference in plugs, but all the one's i've ever used have a piece that screws onto the tip and can be removed, allowing you to use two different types of lead... sounds like you just need to unscrew and remove it in your case.

No such luck I'm afraid. The external thread bit on the old plug is fixed & won't come out. It does fit exactly into the internal thread of the new plugs so I guess I'll take the old & new plugs down tomorrow & see what I can do (eg get the adapter).

tj924, 5150 meant to unscrew the piece from the new plugs. I've never heard of plugs like you described with female threads. Most plugs have a male threaded end with a piece screwed on that's removable - you should be able to unscrew the ends of the new plugs, exposing the male threads.

Here at center and right are the same type of plug with the end piece and without it. At left is an old Autolite plug with non-removable end.

Well bugger me...look at that...the end IS removable . Thanks HEAPS guys. Saved me a VERY embarrasing trip to the auto store today.

Well, thats why I'm doing this, to learn. So now, I've learned. I think I've got a way to go though if I didn't know such basic info about a spark plug!
