I have some weird electric problems I need help with.

When I switch the headlights on they come up OK, but I don't have any rear lights, nor dash lights.
When I switch the headlights off, they don't go down.
But if I leave them on, take the key out and move the indicator arm to one side, the headlights go down, and I have rear lights, parking lights (not on one side but both) and rear lights.
Anything else seems to work OK.
I checked the fuses, they are OK, pulled the relay board to check that as well, now I have some extra wires I could'n track down yet where they are supposed to belong (if at all), the car doesn't start and I just keep staring at the wiring hopelessly.
Any ideas?
thanks,

| sounds like it could be a bad ground , when you activate another circuit , it creates a ground to close the circuit |

That was my solution, too, but couldn't find it (yet). Cleaned the ground points in the back, the two in the front, the one in the dashboard was cleaned last year and looks the same, but couldn't get to the one near the distributor.
Is there anything to do inside the steering column? I mean the indicator switch, is it supposed to provide some contact when in neutral position?

I had a reoccuring problem with the dash and running lights both front and back not working while the headlights did come on. That was a flakey connection at the back of the fuse-relay board. When it happened, I knew the running lights were off because the dash wasn't lit and the temp fix to get them going was to reach in and wiggle the wires behind the relay board. Eventually, I removed the board and cleaned the connections both on it and the wires. It's been good since that was done. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. Thanks Smoothie,
this will be a nightmare for me (there is more than one wire to handle) but I'll give it a try.
Just finished putting back the indicator switch, of course it came to pieces when I took it off..... but managed to find out what goes where, and unusually no spare pieces were left at the end. And it even works. A small step for the mankind but a huge one for me

I gather then that you've pulled off the steering wheel & removed & cleaned the contacts at the three flat head screws under there (2 top & 1 bottom). I had a problem with my wipers going off by themeselves & that 5 minute fix cured it.
