New to this board but not new to 924Ss. I'm looking hard at a '82 931. I read somewhere here that most 931s came with limited slip. Is that factual? Is there a code or number on the case that signifies LSD? Thanks for your help! _________________ -----HAIRY ANT NEST RACING-----

No, not factual at all. I have *never* seen a US-spec series 2 (S2 / 1981-82) 931 with the Audi gearbox that came equipped with LSD. It doesn't mean it wasn't possible or there aren't examples out there, but I've never seen one. Ever.
The S1 US-spec (79-80) and ALL rest-of-world 931s had the G31. LSD was an option throughout the model range, but as far as I am aware was never a standard feature. I have five LSD-equipped G31s and they are exceedingly difficult to find, but not impossible.
With respect to the 1980 931 "S", I had theorized earlier that these cars came with LSD as part of the standard "S" package upgrade, but I now believe that is NOT the case, as I have seen several "S" packaged 931s without LSD. I have found no reliable way to tell from external appearance whether a 931 has LSD or not. The only way is to check the gearbox itself. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Interesting. Glad I checked. I did see a option code list from a link on this forum that had two references to locked differentials. However, the target 931 does not have either of those options. Thanks for the quick response. _________________ -----HAIRY ANT NEST RACING-----

Great. I'll have a look at it today. Ultimately having or not having a LSD isn't going to be a deal breaker. _________________ -----HAIRY ANT NEST RACING-----
