There was big classic meeting in NZ recently (15/16 November) and I took my GT (replica) back out onto the track. First race had a fourth palce - got beaten by a 993, 911RS (1972 version with a 3.2 litre engine) and a early 80's 911 Carrera 3. Even though the race was a handicap event with 40 cars I still did really well as I started in the mid field.

next two races were a bit disappointing as the car would boost over 7 pounds (normal race boost 14 pounds) by a series of trial and error we tracke dit down to a split hose of the intercooler - that cured a major amount of the lost boost, then found teh hose to the boost guage was also perished. Once these were fixed I then managed to get teh GT really flying an fthen got a 10 and a 15 place (out of 45 cars - not handicap and with things liek 993, Triupmh TR8's, teh Carrera's Mustangs etc.

The last race was scratch start and the car jumped out of first just as the flag fell, ended up being passed by almost the whole of the grid again about 45 + cars, by lap two I was up into about 15 place and just trying to pass a 240Z into a sweeper, but a few of the little lotus 7 type cars got in the way and I ended up losing it, End result of the car makes Vaughan's
accident look a small scratch. One day I''' post some photo's so you can all cry along with me.

Good news is the all the mechanicals are ok and I drove it off the track on to the trailer, then off the trailer when I got home and down to the panel
shop both me and the foreman reckon we'll have it going by Christmas so it's not atotal loss just needs a truck load of Dollars thrown at it.

Brakes had nothing to do with the accident - it was straight out driver error, wouldn't of mattered whether I had 4 pot, 6 pot (like the latest 911's), or the turbo's single pot caliper.

I tired a line that had worked the last two laps but unfortunately another car got in the way and while avoiding that thing I made a simple mistake and lost it.

Major bummer! Ask Jeremy sometime about his tangles with 7's!

Well, glad to hear most everything's basically salvageable... good luck!

Yeah, I got t-boned in the door by a Lotus 7 at about 60 MPH approximately, unless I'm telling chicks this story than it was 100 MPH It was enough to write off the car as it pushed in the drivers side door sill and frame about 9-10 inches. It scared the s*%@ out of me and it took me a little bit to get comfort again in the new car.

In the second wreck same situation as yours. I was avoiding others cars and got pinched up against the guard rail at Watkins Glen. I had no where to go

Not fun wrecking in these cars! I've been in 2 wrecks with the 924, and my team members call me "P-Rex" .

Hang in there, this is all about how much fun we have!!

Jeremy

I wonder what the 7 driver was thinking as that happened. Those guys sort of hang out all naked in those cars!

Have a look at the following link
http://groups.msn.com/924CarreraGTInfoSite/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=28

Sorry aboutthe quality of the photo but I'm just going to start stripping the car and didn't want to take it of the axle stands and drive it out side.

The current plan is to transfer all teh running gear to a spare shell I've got and then later next year give the blue shell a tug and then put a new right rear on from another car (a non turbo I brought for parts a few years ago)

If things go as planned the GT will be back on the road by Christmas

You're right it was always goign to be acut and paste but we gave it a bit of a pull in the weekend and got a fairt bit of the shell straight but still going to have to cut the back right corner off one of the shells.
But that's next's year's job.

At the moment I'm stripping this shell and transferring everything into the other good turbo bodyshell .

For various reason's I still want to keep my original blue body shell so hence the lonm term project for next year.
