How do you guys (& ladies of course) find the performance of your cars, mine is a '88 924S with the 163BHp engine, seems to go really well once the revs hit 3000RPM and pulls cleanly to just over 6000RPM.
Getting there feels sluggish and you have to get through a zone of the gear lever vibrating so hard you a reluctant to press on...is this simply a worn bush problem? |

Just the lever vibrates? How loose is the shifter?
My car vibrates because the tires are out of balance (fixing today) and the engine mounts need to be replaced. |

Mine seems to pull pretty well all the way through. Though it does seem to wake up a bit a 3K. I think my truck could beat it to about 60 though
No gearshift lever vibration to speak of. I have heard several folk complain about the lever vibrating. Could be clutch related or bushings in the shift linkage letting it bounce. I replaced the pin and bushings in my shift lever and it tightend the shifts up a bunch but I didn't have vibration .. just slop. _________________ Glenn Neff

I asked tthe question about performance as a previous car was a Golf (Rabbit in the US) GTI cabriolet, that thing flew and felt really responsive...perhaps a lot of it was due to noise and the perception was the car was quick.
The gearlever most definitely vibrates...engine mounts replaced about a year ago, clutch about 8 months ago, all by previous owner. Could well be the bushes...is this an easy job? |

The ones at the shift lever are easy to get to. If the shift lever has the famous "barrel shaped" pin problem you need to fab and weld a new pin as I did or replace the lever. The plastic bushing at the bottom of the lever just pops on and off after you remove the bracket. The ones at the tranny require removing the tranny to do them easily .. I have heard that they can be done without but it is really tight up there.
There are several message threads that cover the shifter vibration issue if you do a search you might find some better info. _________________ Glenn Neff
