Hey all, snowed under with work and not much time to mooch around - got a question though - what's the difference(s) between the two types of wishbone? My local place lists the early ones (pre 1982) at over £200 and yet the "later" ones (1982 onwards) are only £14!!! Photo's of the two would be great so i can compare to mine and see which is fitted on my car - i'd think the early version since she's a 1978, but who knows what the previous owners have changed.

Be nice to snag a couple and re-condition the front suspension over the winter if the cheaper ones will fit.

The difference is that the later version doesn't have the piece attached that the stabilizer bar attaches to. The stabilizer bar and control arms were changed at the same time. The later arms will actually fit, but don't have the bar attachment point.

If you buy the 14 dollar type take the money you saved and get a bigger sway bar. It should be available for about 50 and up. good upgrade.

If not I have two old style.

Vince,

The 2 old style you have, are they new? Come with bushings installed? If so maybe we can work something out, I like to replacements for my 1980.

Thanks,

Chrenan

ahh, so the early version has the piece the drop links attach to on the edge of it - i take it the later one is in a slightly different position then? So swapping my anti-roll (sway) bar for a later version and the two wishbones is probably a good move for the money it'll cost?

Yay for cheap upgrades

Just one slight snag as I see it - The type of bar you have now is mounted with short center links and long end links (the bar itself is positioned higher-up). The later bar attaches with long center links and short end links (the bar is lower). The mounts for the bar ends hold the ends right to the bottom of the control arms. The snag is with the positioning of the threaded bolt holes that hold the center mounts...the newer bars' center links atttach to the frame rails...you may not have threaded holes there for them to attach to, so you might have to provide two more correctly positioned threaded holes at each side. It might actually be cheaper-easier to have the bar mounting tabs removed from the old and welded to the new arms.

The center links on the newer bar attach via side-by-side bolt holes on the underside of the frame rails -

End-link mounts bolt directly to the bottom of the A-arms -

And now for something completely different (superfluous unsolicited information that could be of general interest, but might only complicate and confuse matters)...
..here's how an aftermarket Weltmeister bar attaches -
first, the end-links to the tops of the A-arms -

then the center-links to the frame rails -
