After finally removing the fuel filter from the car, I thought I had done the hard part. Not! It seems that the filter that all the parts stores around me carry does not fit right. From reading the archives it seems this is a common problem as all the filters they list for the 78 cars are for the 80's cars and they are not compatable. One end of the filter has about a 15/32 opening instead of the 1/2 inch and the male fitting will not go in. Can someone give me another filter they have used, preferably with a number or a car model that I can use to get a good filter? The stealer has them special order for $55.00...Gee, should I bend over now or later?
Thanks in advance,

Steve

According to the PET parts list, you should be using 930.110.076.00 ...but, they show that same part number for an '80. In fact, it shows that part # for all 924's from 1976-1981, then at some point in '81 it's changed to 928.110.147.05 .

Well, for those of you that are going to replace your fuel filter and you have an 81 or older car, this might save you some time and money when you do it. I ended up taking the old filter down to my local Napa store and they cross referenced the number on it to a Wix filter #33016 which they had in stock. It was was all of $19.00 with the fittings, and was an exact match. I then asked them what filter their computer says is the right filter for the car they said it was a special order and would take a few days to come in and it ran $33.00. Amazing! Because it was specified for a Porsche, the same filter was almost twice the price! The number you had listed was not an exact match for what is available according to them, but a close match was the special order filter they could get at a higher price. So next time you need a filter, just ask for the Wix filter above and save yourself a lot of time and maybe even a few bucks....
