| I have a 1981 924 turbo in arrest me red. Baste (the car) is very clean. She is supposedly the only turbo in the area maybe even the state. I am trying to get her into drivable condition. My car after getting the master cylinder fixed still had a sticking clutch issue. Took it back because the car stopped no power. The mechanics think that it is an issue with my alternator so they replaced it with a brand new one, as well as fixing my slave cylinder and then telling me that I had 4 or 5 little oil leaks. I got stranded on the highway in the middle of the night. Had the guys at AutoZone check the battery and they said it is the alternator. I am not even going to bother you with my outrage at the mechanics, they are not worth it. They tell me that it is the gages that are causing the power loss. The guys at Doc’s Garage where my guys went for help think that because I can only see the heat gage that is the only light that comes on. Oh.. and the brake light and the out of gas light. The others just don’t seem to come on. Please explane were they get this idea and what It could be. I really want to keep this car but at this rate I can’t afford too. Please help. |

The alternator needs something called "exciter" current to put it into charging mode and that exciter current comes through the same circuit that lights the alt light in the dash, so if you don't see the alt light come on when you have the key in and turned to ignition-on (before the car's started), then that could be all that's wrong - a burnt-out alt light bulb, bad wire or bad connection to post D+ on the back of the alternator. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
