Ok folks, what's the best "How-to" book for shadetree fiberglass repair? I seem to keep hitting things with my paper-thin front air-dam so I need to do a few fixes over the winter.
Some might say I'm mechanically competent but fiberglass is foreign to me. I have no idea what to do other than fixing things is supposed to take fiberglass and resin in some appropriate combination.
Something with a lot of pictures and 1-2-3 instructions would probably be best.
I thought someone recommended a book but I searched and can't find anything. I checked rennlist too. Mebbe it was pelican...
Anyhoo, your thoughts would be appreciated. Trying to get items onto the holiday giftie list... |

When I wanted to find out about fibreglassing I did a search on the net and found a website on "how to repair surfboards" to be of great help.
Explains the difference between epoxy/polyester, mixing ratios of hardners, and simple repairs for dings/broken board repairs.
Not much though on making molds, which is something I'd like to know, but this was great fopr the somple stuff.
get you started anyway...

There is a great discussion list a Fiberglast's website (www.fiberglast.com). In addition to having all the materials, they have lots of books and videos for sale.
Beware - their prices can be outrageous. |

a good general introduction to composites is "Competition Car Composites" by Simon McBeath published by Haynes. It's mostly about building stuff not repair but then why repair it when you can build a new one out of carbonfibre or kevlar
As Andy said, the Fiberglast website is a good place to start. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)
