Who has the clue for this one;
First my headlights didn't come up at once. I had to wait and hope and after a few minutes they came up. Shortly after; nothing. Then I checked contact points at relay and connector but they looked fine, clean etc. Also twisting those a bit didn't help. Also the high beams (signal lights) didn't light up anymore when pulling the handle at the steering wheel. After I helped the headlights motor with the manual knob a bit the lights come up... but now go crazy when the light switch is in ''off'' position! They keep popping up and down and up and down untill I take the key out. With the light switch in ''on'' position they stay up normal. High beams; one works the other doesn't.

Anybody have clues? Appreciate it very much.

Call a priest to vanquish the evil spirits...

or..

check for obstructions, theyre probably hanging up someplace and cant seat correctly...theyll do this if a wire or other object gets in the path of the travel. its not always readily apparent, as things will flex or move into the way as theyre moving....

From what I see happening it's clearly an electrical thing, but where?

The switches are known to get hot and melt the connections on the back and lose or cross a connection. I'd check there first. I'm sure someone has a replacement on the board they would sell you. IIRC, early 944 switches will work, too. That's what I have in mine right now.

Same thing happened in my 78 928 two weeks ago. Replaced the relay and the problem went away. Upon examination of the old relay I discovered that one of the contacts were burnt. Might try removing the relay cover and cleaning both the upper and lower contacts on the spring.

found it! A loose wire contact at the back of the big contactblock on the headlight switch inside the car (a bit of a snake act) caused the headlights to constantly flip
