yes, lots of pictures and maybe a "How to add a water-air intercooler to your turbo" for the new tech section. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

Well, it arrived today!!! And I think it might fit!!!
Its actually thinner than I had imagined and the coolant tubes appear to point in a friendly direction.
I havent had chance to pull the charge tube off the car and test fit it for clearance yet, but I will tonight. _________________ 88 951 stone gray

Ok, I pulled the charge tube and air filter assembly for a test fit tonight. My goal is to keep it as close to the turbo and throttle body as possible, to help avoid any additional lag. First off.....let me say this is NOT going to be a direct bolt on!!! Not that I thought it would be, just wanted to make that clear to all.
Next, it appears to line up well with the turbo and throttle body, the spacing is pretty close. The rear of the cooler will drop down to the correct level and clear the hood no problem. The front of the cooler however is high, I need to change the thermostat outlet and re-route a few things this will give me another inch or so down. Also I need to relocate the oil fill cap to the rear of the valve cover instead of the front.
I would like to see it clear the hood without a scoop, not real confident that it will. A Carrera or similar scoop may be required, not sure yet.
Heres a few pics of the cooler just sitting there, currently the thermostat housing is preventing it from dropping down, as well as a few brackets that are connected to the cooler.
Bottom line is...........I WILL MAKE IT WORK!!!!!
More info and results to follow soon!!!! _________________ 88 951 stone gray

Great pictures, but the next you should do is to put a Porsche decal over that toy one. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

It would probably fit were the coolant tank is. You could convert the tank to the fender mounted 924S type.
Our Audi TT uses rubber hoses that are at least as long as this setup would require. (it has a peak boost of 29 PSI.) _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Yes the TOYOTA name will be gone. Its a brushed aluminum cover with decals and clear coat. It will probably say "PORSCHE INTERCOOLED TURBO" when finished. Or "PORSCHE 931"........ _________________ 88 951 stone gray

I considered putting it over there, but the inlet and outlet are not user friendly for that location. _________________ 88 951 stone gray

Yeah, you're right, it does look good on the valve cover, but it would be nice to keep a stock hood. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

A stock hood is the goal, it just depends on a few little items being modified. I am going to try to make it happen. _________________ 88 951 stone gray

Turn the cooler 180 degrees have the filler at the rear, and you could probably do the same with the camshaft cover...
You could also weld up the filler hole in the camshaft cover and fill your oil through the inspection cover on the front left side of the head.

Well, I have the same intercooler, and I have been playing with it off and on for a year, but I have not been able to get it to work with the stock hood and valve cover. My current thoughts are to just use the core out of it, and build a new case that will work with the stock limitations. I will probably use a remote water tank. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |
