hi all, when replacing the pads on my 81 924 I noticed a rod under the wheel arch has broken away. It's a vertical rod with a joint at the top which slides over a bar that snakes round to the front of the car and straightr across to the other side. I guess this is a stabilizer bar but can't find any pics or description in the haynes except you can see it in the picture on the cover. The rod is just behind the steering rack & infront of the brakes. It has snapped away from the top bit that slides over the bar. Can anyone tell me what this part is called so i can try & get it, and is it easy enough to change? I don't know if this bar is an option or a necessity?
I would include a pic but don't know how u do that on this forum.
Thanks for any help _________________ meteor silver 1981 924 lux. -UK |

The larger bar is your front sway bar, and the part that has come apart sounds like the drop link. It is not absolutely necessary, but helps in aiding the cars handling. Makes the friont of the car more rigid.
You can post a pic by having it hosted at another website, like photobucket.com and then put a link to the pic in your post using the menu above. _________________ MJ

That's a very common failure mode, and it shouldn't be hard to find a replacement at the dealer or the like. The biggest PITA will be sliding it off of the swaybar, as the cotter pin that holds it on may well be rusted and might have to be drilled out. _________________ Vaughan Scott
