Needs work can mean a lot of dofferent things...
The 924S and 944 are practically the same car. When comparing the 924S to the 85 944, if the 944 has the older dashboard (85/1, and a 85/2 car), the the cars are the same, other than the fenders.
Personally, I would go with the car that has the body in better physical condition. The fact is, body work can easily cost more than you are paying, and more than either car is worth (in dollars).
The other thing to keep in mind is that the working on the 944 engine requires some expensive special tools and techniques. These are tools and skills that are not required to maintain a 924.
The 944 engine also requires expensive maintenance on a regular schedule (every three years, or 30K miles, whichever comes first), to keep it breathing. You should figure on spending at least $600-$800 on parts, another $500-$1000 for labor each time this is required.
That being said... How many miles on each car? What specific work does the 924S require? What is the exact condition of the parts car (model, miles, damage)? When was the last time that the complete front of engine service was performed on each car (924S, parts car, 85 944)? |
