What needs to be hooked up to the speedometer in my 77 924? I know the big fat speedo cable needs to, but there's another contact on the back of it that needs to be hooked up to something apparently. I looked at the haynes wiring diagrams and couldn't find a speedo.

I've already tried the black and brown underdash wires, because there are quite a few of those that I haven't hooked up to anything yet. Nothing happened, though. I think that my speedometer may be broken.

the ONLY thing needed to be hooked up to the speedo for it to read speed is the big cable, (which is the most common source of failure), the other wires are a brown one to the chassis, and a couple of lights that slide into the holes on the backside, white/blue wires for the lights.

damn, I guess that means it's time for a new speedo.

Is there a chance that maybe the cable's not seated on the threads correctly or something, or is it just a dead gauge?

take the speedo out, use a iirc #2 robertson bit in a drill, put the drill to reverse rotation (loosen) and run the drill top speed, you should see about 30kmph (with most drills) if you dont then yes it is dead.
