|
|
First off I'm new here and I just wanted to say hi to everyone. I just bought a '77 924n/a a few months ago and she is my baby. What I'm looking for is detailed instructions on how to remove the emissions control system and get the vacuum lines in the right place. If something like this has already been posted, a link to that would be great. Any help is greatly appreciated.

| Yeah I saw this and it helps, but I'm kind of a newbie to the enthusiast world and I was looking for some in depth help. I dont want to screw anything up. |

Some advice. Figure out why you want to do the things that you do, and identify what you are going to do in order to accomplish the why.
Why do you want to take the emissions control systems off your car? What components are you wanting to remove?
There are many systems that work together. You may very well be worse off if you just start removing things without understanding why. _________________ 78 924 NA

| Well the carnis running great and I justnwant the extra bump in hp that can be gained from making it like a ROW car. So to answer your question, I would like to remove the components that are strangling the engine. I want it to reach its maximum potential without doing any major engine modifications/upgrades. |

To make it like an ROW car you need different pistons. I suggest focusing on the suspension, brakes and tires if you want the car to be more fun. _________________ Toofah King Bad

| The suspension is good. The brakes and tires are new. So You're saying I can't just remove the emissions control features and tune the engine and call it good? I need different pistons too? |

Perhaps you could elucidate which "emissions control features" you are wanting to remove and what you think the effects will be. _________________ Toofah King Bad

| I was told if you removed the egr check valve and the charcoal canister you could get the full 125hp out of the motor. |

Nope. Maybe a couple of HP at the most. The main difference between the 95 and 125hp motors is the pistons, specifically the compression ratio. _________________ Stefan

| Ahh ok. So how extensive and expensive of a project would that be? |

The biggest problem on your car is the restrictive normally aspirated head, made worse by the early 77 tiny valves (which were enlarged on the 77.5-onward cars). I doubt you will see ANY affect from removing the emissions control.
As for how expensive, may I suggest you spend some time perusing this thread. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

The EGR valve does nothing at full throttle. All it does is increase efficiency and decrease harmful emissions at part throttle. _________________ 78 924 NA
