The exhaust has been hanging on at best though lately its gotten worse
I was almost ready to take the header off yesterday though found it didnt need to be.Went to Midas mufflers to have some pipe bent for free ..thought that was pretty nice of them. After returning slightly frustrated becuase of to much bend the mechy and me our eyes meeting
both blurt out sure would be nice to have the car here. So they agreed to put in a exhaust for me thats using this new slightly used cat back 944
or one of there mufflers. My prob has been not securing the center pipe and lately ther muffler hanger broke up.Id lioke to have a double outlet muffler stuck in there somewhere with dual outlets that would be nice
anyway they agreed the center pipe coud be hung and my 944 cat back for around $60.00 to $80.00 Though I need to take off the header and have a better coupler attached there Im usen a old style colletctor 3 bolt header flange wirg gasket.. I can get it sealed though it only lasts a few months or longer at best.
Though today and sunday I(ll be seeing whast I can do for now I didnt have time to take off the header even though its a 4 day weekend for me. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

there should be a huge U bolt going around the torque tube that has a mount for a rubber bushing, although at this time for my exhaust I have a slip joint on the header, and then I have the 3 bolt flange with a copper gasket between the 2 going into a cherrybomb mounted under the car, and then the pipe exits on the drivers side of the car just infront of the rear wheel, this is a VERY VERY loud setup though and is 2.5" all the way back _________________ 3 928s, |

Well last weekend I eneded up going to the autoparts store and buy a bunch of hangers for the exhaust and now have the catback 44 exhaust on.
Its been a long week though cause even though I replaced the gasket at the 3 bolt collector it leaked .
Tonight Im gonna remove the header as Midas mufflers has agreed to cut and weld on a doughnut style collector guarenteed not to leak...
Also its time to polish up the original style muffler end piece the tip
that quites it down as thats gonna be welded to the end of the cat back 44.
the old style 3 bolt collector hookups for exhaust are really outdated . When you over tighten the bolts the flange bends creating more space there for leaks. Ive been putting up with a leaky header flange for too long. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Hey Joe, When I put on the 944 muffler on my car this is how I did it.
I got 4 2.5" collectors, and a piece of straight pipe. I welded one collector to the end of the header and two of the collectors to the straight pipe. The flange was the same as the one on the 944 muffler pipe. Used the MR. Gasket Exhaust flange gaskets. ANd when I put them in I used a coating of RTV red. and torqued the bolts down to 25 lbs. Even though the car hasn't seen alot of driving, what it has everything is holding together nicely and no leaks. Also used the 944 exhaust hangers. And there is no Cat. Has a real nice sound even if I didn't feel any difference in power. _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

its early 8:30 am though Id like to get this header off and ovrer to Midas
mufflers. I cut off the 44 connector flange and used some slip pipe
clamped , ..the 3 bolt collector has got to go I want something that really seals. yea I like the deep throaty sound the 44 cat back gives off though it needs to be mellowed with resonator I have it goes on the very end.
man its cold outside even in the garage. dress warm _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Goin back to stock thats right gonn use the stock exhaust manifold
with a straight pipe to the cat back..reason header is cracked in one pipe
that seems to be impossable to reweld and havw a seal. So I have the stock resonator welded to the cat back mufflerI have 2 broken studs in the exhaust mani to remove and replace.
... Im waiting on the 9 dollar gasket that goes between the manifoldy
and down pipe.. Is this gonna suck or maybe the performance will be the same. At least itll be quite. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Got to get it bolted up though..still. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
