Has anyone here got an Integral cam? I was wondering if they're worth the money and which to get-Stage 2 or stage 3 for my 931. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

Knowing your car, I think a stage two would be the best route, not too much but not too little either especially if you get that GTR head
And since the integral cam is made from a new piece of billet, it is definately worth the money compared to a reground. They have been in the business alot of years and I am sure they'll stand behind thier products. Good luck _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

Hey John,
Are you running one in a boosted car? The benefits are debatable from what I've heard. Maybe Integral has some data on it for a 931? I would be a little skeptical until I saw some numbers- as with any performance item.

Ah, well, that's the thorny side of the question. Integral (like almost all other reputable sources) does not post any numbers. I agree with you that it is of questionable value on the turbo. Even on the na car the improvement was largely (and subjectively - I made not objective measurements) in that we could tell 'things' moved up about 500 rpm. The motor was much more willing to keep going above around 5500 or so. And, since we're racing we spend most of our time above 3000 and close to 6000+. In concert with some headers there is some perceptable power increase for the na motor - the two mods are complementary. So, for around $600 total we got a perceptable increase in power. Clearly, I don't see any point to the cam for street use.
That said, if someone just has to buy a cam I very strongly recommend Integral for the quality of the product. In fact, I would use Integral to replace a bad stock cam. And, keeping the CIS on a streetable car I would follow owner Steve Gruenwald's advice and stay with the 'Stage 2'. Note that Integral does not use precisely the same grind for the na and the turbo motors. _________________ John

If you replace cams you will most likely need a bunch of the adjusting screws in various thickness. Sitting here I seem to recall they were about $4 each so it can get pricey. It's also a tedious process, at least I found it so to get the tolerance I wanted. _________________ John
