Hi all, I managed to mess up my drain plug on my rad and now need to replace it. (hopefully thats the only damage) ...anyway does anyone know the exact size of the plug and the thread size on it? It is metric right?
Thanks Chris. _________________ 1981 924 NA (Restoring mode)

Take your dead drain plug to your local hardware store and ask the salesperson there for the same size and thread pitch in stainless steel.
Next time, remove the lower radiator hose, instead of screwing with the drain plug for exactly this reason. |

I think it's an M8, pitch is standard i.e not fine or coarse, but the length is quite short i believe it's around 10mm.
If you've done damage it's probably to the thread on the radiator, that's what I did to mine. I over tightened the bolt and stripped the inside thread. I used the next size up bolt in imperial measurement and a bit of loctite and it seems to be holding up.
If your radiator is in good condition then get a tap and make a new thread for the next size up metric bolt. This will give you peace of mind, you don't want to have the thread fail when your out on the road.

Ok for everyones info...Leadfoot is right its an M8 bolt...the original bolt has a pitch of 1.0 I repaired mine by using a M8 with 1.25 threading....and retapping the threads on the rad.
worked out great.
