It works so well as a convertible it's a shame Porsche never did a pukka version.

this was done with alot of money put into it I will agree, HOWEVER, I am really not a fan of the aftermarket conversions due to the fact tat they didnt make the trunk level like porsche did on the S2 cabrio which imo looks 1000% better.
but I am also a coupe guy myself and would not own a cab _________________ 3 928s, |

I don't get what the point of spending that much money to convert a 924 to a 944 cabrio..... its just basicly cosmetics.
why wouln't you get a actuall 944 cabrio with the money with better performance interior etc. _________________ 78 924 sold.

also won't converting a regular car into a convertable make it less strong?
removing the roof makes the car much weaker. _________________ 78 924 sold.

First of all, Porsche never built the 944 cabios. They were built by American Sunroof in a factory down the street from the Porsche Factory. New partially assembled bodies were taken from the assembly line, and transported to American Sunroof's factory, were they were placed on a jig, reinforced, had the roof cut off, and the rear compartment was trimmed. The chassis were then returned to Porsche for completion.
So, all cabios are made the same way, regardless of who did/does it.
And no, the price of an original 944S2 Cabio has not fallen that far.... yet.
There are/were a several of companies that offer cabio conversions and conversion kits, including American Sunroof and Buehler (coach builder in Beligum who manufactured custom bodies for 356s, 911s, and 928s in the past), I don't know if the kits or conversion services are still being offered any of these companies. Kits were priced between $2000-$2500, with conversion labor priced separately (did not include the fenders).
Yes, I agree, it seems like a waste to go to the expense of installing 944 style fenders, and leave the stock 15 X 6 ATS wheels on the car.

This particular car has a Bieber-Cabrio kit. This is a German company, makes conversion kits for almost everything: from Beetles to Porsches:) _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Hi !
Gosh, what the hell is this hideous...
There are many other versions far more beautiful !
The one by Bieber is clearly better, don't you think ?
It's for sale on eBay too, don't hesitate !

Obviously, the Belgian Porsche-buying public have the same opinion of conversions as the majority here: the auction ended yesterday and the car failed to attract a single bid.
The seller is obviously a dealer as he has several other Porsches for sale.
Personally, I liked the look of the car and, in general I like to see interesting conversions. However, I don't think I would ever buy a converted car because you can never be sure how well it's been done.
Anyway, like Lizard, I'm a committed coupe man! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)
