Went to Queensland Raceway, about 50km West of Brisbane, on Sunday to watch a mate race his Gemini Cup car (no, didn't take the Porsche )

It was a beautiful day. Clear skies and cool.

There were some interesting cars there (to me, at least);

A little four-cylinder Can Am style thingy:

A bunch of Cobra replicas (all with BIG Ford V8's). The one in the foreground had two onboard cameras and a portable LCD DVD player which he showed the footage on! Pretty cool . The one behind it with the GT stripes (not with the bonnet up) was being raced by a woman. She did pretty well... hard core!

A four-cylinder turbo Lotus Esprit (can't recall ever seeing one on the road here):

Its younger brother, the Exige. It put up a good fight but was outclassed by the bigger engine stuff:

The big, bad GT40 (replica, of course). This thing was second outright but beaten by... you guessed it... a Porsche! It was a 993 Turbo. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot (my mate did but I haven't got them off him yet):

Some carpark cars, a 'Vette and a Viper:

And my mate's Gemini Cup car coming onto the main straight. It had a minor gearbox seal leak that was dripping onto the exhaust, hence the smoke trail. He qualified 3rd in his class but missed the first race due a busted dizzy. Got it going for the 2nd race and was doing well but spun off We left after that so I don't know how he did in the later races:

Great day

Well spotted

Yep, that's an Elise. But it didn't race.

There were a heap of Go-Karts out there, too. Mean buggers with 7-speed sequential gearboxes. They would've pants'd almost everything out there! I heard a rumour they were hitting nearly 125mph down the back straight

nice, that would have been a wicked event to have seen, but hey I cant complain on the 29th before I fly out I get to see the famous 917K short tail driven by Steve McQueen in the movie LeMans, as it is currently owned by someone in seattle and he is actually going to be doing 3 laps on the track with it, along with a few other classic porsche race cars,

I am pretty stoked about that,

Oh man, where's the emoticon for EXTREMELY JEALOUS?!

I did see a real GT40 run once (it was at Queensland Raceway, actually) but I've never even seen a 917 in the metal, let alone running on the track.

You lucky bugger!
