I'm worried I may have cracked my headgasket or damaged the head on the engine by driving int he red temp zone for around 5 mins today.
I arlready knew I had the fan not coming on a few weeks ago but it suddenly started working so I delayed checking it out and today coming home from the mechanic the temp got over the red area again and i still had to drive for about 5 mins.....
when I parked it I wiggled the relax and wires to the motor but it still wouldn't come on.......before that worked.
do these engines get easily damaged by going over the red temp area?
did I most likely cause some damage or not?
I'm not going to risk it anymore and park and just bus to schoo and work until I have time ot fix it.
after the car overheated I jsut let it sit for ten mins and drove to work...... (2 min drive) and it just got over the red again and I parked.
but I won't do it again .....
the problem shoudlnt' be too hard.
the one of the wires going to the temp sensor on the radiator is half wak broken (half of the wires have come apart and its really dirty).
could be just that. but I might aswell go get a new switch and a new relay.
the fan most likely insn't bad right?
is it ok if I just solder the wires on to the switch / fan or do I need to get proper clip on parts (don't know what they are called) .
normal solder might melt under as the switch gets pretty hot...
I just want to hear if anyone knows if I damaged my engine or if it should be ok......
you are suppose to immediately shut off the engine if it gets into the the red area.... _________________ 78 924 sold.

Crimp lugs are on the end of the wire and push on to the switch.
Buy a set real cheap at the local auto shop with lugs.
Keep it in the rear hatch area for crap like this.
The motor should be ok if you haven't lost any coolant into the oil- turns a coffee color, check the dipstick.
Wouldn't recommend doing the red zone too often. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Dont need to drain the colant but top it up when you are done, you'll lose the tank fluid and a bit out of the radiator. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
