Drove the gleaming white car to work three times last week, and tried to start it saturday, and it wouldn't cooperate. I think it was firing intermittently due to some bluish smoke coming out of the back, yes, I did pump the pedal a few times! So, I left it alone for awhile, thinking it would fix itself. Alas, today it did the same thing, I did get it running and drove it around the block, and it seemed quite right. But, after shutting it off and trying to restart it, it wouldn't start. I put a timing light on the coil wire, and not much going on there, no steady blinking of the light. Weird thing though, when I shut the key off, it would fire a couple of times and quit. Does that sound like a short somewhere, or did the coil just decide to die on me? Maybe a sticky relay? Dave

you can get this tool called an "inline spark tester" and put it between your dist. and coil. If it lights up then your coil is working. Does the car not start when it is cold?

well, the car fixed itself. Not sure how it got into my tools, but I went out a few hours later, and it started. And it started five times in a row, so not sure what happened. Of course, I don't trust it now.
