ok, so i don't know a lot about suspension systems in general, but i know one thing and one thing for sure: mine squeaks. it squeaks like crazy... out of every corner of the car. and it's driving me nuts. i'd love to just get the whole thing redone with new parts, but there's no way i afford to do that right now. anyone know any quick, easy fixes? should i just go at it with some synthetic grease and hope that takes care of it? to make matters worse, i don't have a lift, and the front valence is too low for me to get the car up onto my ramps. so.. i'm pretty much restricted to doin' it one side/corner at a time with my floor jack. _________________ '81 US 931 "Rochelle" |

Does it sqeak when you hit a bump in straight line, or is it just linked to the steering? I had a similar thing affecting steering and just put some lube around and below the self-locking nuts that hold the macpherson struts in the engine bay. That cleared it up. _________________ 1983 - 924 (185K miles) - not mint

it's pretty much every time i hit any bump or do any amount of wobbling whatsoever. i can't say i've tried it, but i expect that if i just went out and pushed the car a little in any given direction, there'd be squeaking. _________________ '81 US 931 "Rochelle" |

Some of that squeeking can be from stabilizer bar mounts - not so much the end links, more from the inboard mounts. Silicone based lube's best for them and any other rubber parts. (Petroleum based lubes erode rubber while silicone's actually a rubber preservative (and lubricant).) _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Shocks can sometimes squeek too. I had a squeeky pair of rear Koni sports for a while. I wasn't able to reproduce the squeek by jumping up and down on the bumper, but new shocks fixed the problem.
You should be able to narrow it down to the front or back, regardless what the squeek actually is. Have a friend drive you around and crawl around the cabin/hatch to listen.

well, my ride is pretty stiff, so i'm thinkin' that the shocks need to be replaced. it's on my list of things to do... i just can't shell out the $$ for it at the moment. hopefully soon, though. _________________ '81 US 931 "Rochelle" |

Get under and in the car and tighten every nut and bolt. Sometimes they work loose and the body squeeks.
Then oil or grease all the moving parts.
Get earmuffs. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
