I got it! Its mine! I have it! well you get the point..
anyway, its in good condition, runs fine, except it drops oil pressure when on to low RPMs, under 500, otherwise the pressure stays 2 at idle and between 4.5-7 when driving. it idles at 1,050.
sometimes it doesnt want to start, but you have to try it maybe 2-3 times before it does, when this happens it cranks but nothing more happen and the battery lamp and oil pressure lamp comes on.
also when the car is not started and you shift gears you can hear the mechanics working, needs more transmission oil?
any thoughts?
im off to wash it now, will post pics later!
cheers,

Cool. Now the fun begins.
Your oil pressure readings are good. Idle speed should be about 900-950 and oil pressure of 1 bar at that speed (engine warmed) is normal. -Not suprising that the oil light would come on at 500. You might also find that the oil light flickers when the engine's fully warmed, and you turn on the running and headlights - that would indicate grounding problems in the electrical system rather than actual low oil pressure.
Ideally, it should start and run without even touching the throttle, but that requires everything to be operating and close to perfect. Even with that, they'll tend to need a bit of footwork when it's extra cold. If it doesn't start and run on the first try, try again while holding the pedal flat to the floor and release as soon as it fires up.
Good luck! _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

It's quite usual to be able to hear the gear shift working with the engine off (and sometimes with it on, too!)
In any case, it would be a good idea to drain the gearbox oil fully and replace it with the correct grade (EP 80/90). Mine had ATF in a manual 'box! When I put the correct oil in the gear change was miles smoother!
BTW good luck with your new car! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

ok! all seems good then, was worried that the car would be in much worse shape. its a wonder to drive, compared to a 1.9 Opel Astra Turbo it kicks ass, now i know what it is to drive a sports car!
but there is one thing i have to fix first of all, the car fogs up like hell, after maybe 5 minutes of driving you cant see shit out the back, even thou the defrosting works, the heater/air blower is broken. the light on the switch goes on but no air comes out, anyone know a good way to test where the system is failing?
cheers,
erik
ps. pushed up to 150 yesterday and it wanted more, maybe tonight when the freeway is clear ill go for the two oo oo _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

The through ventilation on these cars is pretty crap.
Someone got too clever and designed a system too complicated for its own good. Air is supposed to come in at the front, then go down the slits around the rear hatch, then make its way forward again through the rear wings, into the doors ( ) and out through slits at the front of the doors.
Nice theory, but it doesn't work! I think at Autobahn speeds it might be OK, but around town, forget it!
P.S. 200 kms/hr is 124 mph which is close to the top speed of a NA 924, so you'll be doing well if you can manage it in a 20 year-plus example. Good luck! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

you should be able to do that too
yea my vent system works and i still cant see shit out the back of the car...dont count on that big rear hatch as its quite useless in the cold winters. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

i was cleaning out some muck from under the wiper motor and in order to unclog a drainhole i put a hose there, then i heard a short beep from the back of the car like a warning buzzer, no problem. then when i was driving directly after it came on again several times, sometimes when engine breaking sometimes when shitfting gear and sometimes when i hit a pothole. any idea what it is and what it means?
how do you get the wiper motor off? the haynes descriptions are vague at best
cheers,

I think it's pretty easy to remove the wiper motor , you obviously have to remove the cover first.
mine stopped working and I removed it and cleaned all the wire connections and it worked again. _________________ 78 924 sold.
