Has anyone considered the possibility of making a 20mm to 25mm shaft adapter using two input shaft couplers cut in half, then welded together and reinforced? This would allow one to either: Use the more common 931 snail in a '79 N/A without having to change the tube and convert to the Ford clutch. Or, allow one to upgrade their '79 N/A to the bigger tube without having to buy a turbo snail. Parts for snails have gotten outragous and some near impossible to find. With the same adapter, the owner of a snail 931 could also use an N/A trans and still keep the thicker tube. The question is: Can the N/A snail handle the extra power of the 931 engine? As "good" used snails become harder to find, this may be a possibility. I know, it may be easier just to swap over a complete Audi setup from a 944.

There is a boad memeber that I beleive that did this, Wolf. He recently sold his car, not sure if he is still lurking around though. Seemed to work for him pretty well if memory serves me correct _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |
