|
|
| I need new carpet for the back shelf and the area above it for my '78 924 na. Mid American Motor Works lists a complete carpet kit for $279.99, but it's no longer available. Automobile Atlanta wants $545.50 for a complete kit. Does anyone know of a vendor where I could either buy a full kit for under $300, or someone who will offer just the replacement pieces I need? |

Your best bet is to search for a good used carpet. All the 924/944 carpets are swapable as long as you swap all the carpet at once (as far as I know). Some of the separate pieces are shaped differently, but they all fit together inside the cabin perfectly.
All the aftermarket kits I've seen have been of pretty low quality. The molded kit I picked up was a terrible fit (the molds were off quite a bit) and the edging and carpet itself were also pretty low quality. For the $300+ I paid, I was boarderline angry. A complete set out of another 924/944 is guaranteed to fit, and the original quality is very good.
Just know that to fit the front carpet well, you'll need to the center console (at least) and possibly need to loosen the big heater unit to be able to slide the carpet under it (I installed mine with the heater unit out of the car).

-nick it would help to know where you got your kit from not just that it was crap.
The only carpet kit worth the money is one from World Upholstery and Trim but you will not get a molded OEM carpet kit for less than $300 so don't bother.
Used would be my last resort. |

I believe World Upholstery is the only outfit making molded kits for our cars. And that would be the one I'm referring too...

Interesting.
I've done restorations on 3 interiors so far using WU carpet and have had good results with each, but I usually go with the cut and bound sets because I like the less refined look (psuedo race interiors) and don't mind the extra care it takes to install them properly..
BTW the carpet from MA, and PP are molded, just not OEM carpet, they are domestic cut pile. |

| I need black carpet. Stock Interiors looks like exactly what I'm looking for. Has anyone else had experience with them? |

| I would like to buy used carpet. The only pieces I need are the big flat piece under the back hatch and the vertical ones that snap around that area. If you can help, please PM me. Thanks! |

Really? Factory or aftermarket? How much?
Just interested in what it might cost. Mine is good enough (very good, considering she's 25-years-old) but getting a little shabby. It would be nice to replace it with new stuff... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
