going through the search was P*ssing me off - it's been a long cold day working on the car and I'm a tired man!

Anyway one the jobs (of the 50 thousand) was to repair the odometer on the speedo... What an absolute *itch of a job. The speedo cable is so short the speedo only move half an inch forward so even with the rev counter out I could barely get my fingers round.. Anyway I managed it after about an hour and a half

so I've taken it apart and can see one of the teeth has broken off the gear on th eodometer shaft. Tried fab'ing one up but it ain't gonna happen

So does anyone have a spare one or point me in the right direction where to source one.. paragon has a pic of one but looks nothing like mine. Mine is whiteplastic gearwith a brass looking centre to fit on the shaft - it should have 11 teeth.

cheers

thanks but sadly no good...

"We have several different gears to choose from. All gears are for the non-cable driven odometers. Categories are as follows. 944, 944 EURO, 928 (up to M.Y. '89), 928 EURO, 911 (up to M.Y. '89), 911 EURO (up to M.Y. '89). "

Well, I have a lot of old 924 and 944 speedo's. If we can figure out which one matches your GTC, I can pull the gear for you.

To make thing easier if you do this again or for installation, push the speedo cable through the firewall from the engine bay. Gives you a few extra inches to play with and makes it much easier to get to.

Hi all - Happy new Yr !

Sadly the gear vince sent me is not gonna work - too many teeth

The gear I'm looking for has 11 teeth off of a a VDO odometer (white digits on black facia) - it reads to 160 Mph with the minor Kph scale reading to 260.

There is a serial no. on the facia at the top (which is not visible unless you have the front off) - the no. reads
477 957 031L

can anyone help?

Pez,

I checked this on PET, the part number you quote is no longer available and has been replaced with 944 641 035 00. This is a complete speedo with 160mph / 260km/h markings

As your car is Euro spec (there was never a CGT in US spec), I don't think parts from US cars will be suitable, as the gear ratios / final drive were different on US spec cars, all of which affect the speedometer.

As the 937 was based on the 931, I think a used speedometer from an S2 931 81on (white markings on the speedometer) will be the ok.) Coincidentally, for my 931, the same speedometer part number is given as a replacement.

Arthur

Gear ratios have no effect, as our speed's are driven off of the left front wheel. All of the '83 and earlier speedo's are interchangeable.

Pez, can you post a clear pic of the gear you want? I can see if the authorised VDO repairer who fixed my speedo can get one. He replaced the input gears on my speedo when they got ground away.

Was thinking of overall wheel diameter, not gear ratios, sorry for the gaff

The difference in tyre size would affect the number of teeth on the gear.

Hey, I just noticed your "Carrera GT" has pop-up headlights? I thought real ones had fixed lights with clear covers..?

Weird thing is, I just went back and looked at tennsters car... and it's got pop-ups as well?

Am I missing something here?
