*Note: Already posted this 2 days ago in another thread but only got one reply. Hopefully with this I will get some answers. Thanks.
Hi guys, I'm back. i'll give you a qick update.....
When trying to start the car I heard nothing so decided to pull out the starter. Upon pulling out the starter I realised that the wires wer all fried so I stripped them and covered them up with tape for the time being. The starter worked while out of the car with a direct connection to the battery but after I re-installed it it was not turning enough to start the engine. I imagine this is due to not enough voltage passing through to the starter. Could it be a relay or something? Also, Just to be sure i connected a wire directly from the battery to the solenoid and the car started up immedietly!
To the solenoid I have 3 wires connected. The black and red ones (thick) together on the big lug and the small black wire on the smaller of the two screw terminals. (is this right?). My fuel pump also stopped working after i removed the starter but it is not a problem as I just need to connect its wire to an alternative power source.
Any ideas guys?
P.S I will be taking pics as soon as I get it out of the garage (garage is too small).
Thanks again. |

The wiring to the starter changed with model years.
We need to know to year and model to give you an answer.

It only makes sense to deal with a problem within one thread, but you're new, so we'll let it slide this one time. I can only second Mike924's response in the other thread - get wiring diagrams and replace all the wiring to the starter. It's relatively common for the starter wires to go bad on the 924NA. We often hear of them being completely shot within the insulation where the problem can't be seen. Some replace with extra heat protection over the new wires - that's not a bad idea. Wiring diagrams are included in the Haynes manual. They show a total of 5 wires going to the starter.. the larger wires = 2 red + 1 black to starter term #30, black/red to #50 to operate the solenoid, and a black wire to #16 which goes to between the ignition ballast resistors to supply the coil with higher voltage during starting. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
