2 weeks ago a drunk driver failed to give way to my daughter and wrote her car off.
Her car:

They carted him off to hospital, the police interviewed my daughter and she got a lift home from the scene.
However, the police have to get his permission before we can get his details due to privacy laws.
WTF is this world coming to? How are we supposed to get compensation?
Her car wasn't insured and his insurance wont cover him - not that we have his details anyway.
This is so much bullshit I cant believe it.
I got his mobile number from the tow truck driver but he hasn't returned one call.
To get the traffic accident details from the relevent authorities is going to cost $60.
I will eventually see this idiot in court.
Boy am I pissed.

Mate, I feel your pain.

Seems your daughter was OK? That's the main thing.

Hope the culprit gets what he deserves...

Ozzie, thats just SUX in SO many ways! I mean if he was still at the scene he HAS to give you his details, yet if he gets carted off he doesn't? Is the traffic accident report from the cops going to have his details so you can contact him, or will they be blanked out?

File a small claims suit against him. Far less hassle & cost & I'm positive the court can get contact details for him so they can serve him with the summons. Should be a no brainer if you have the traffic accident report & whatever details you can get from the cops. Hopefully he'll get some decent jail time as well.

Damn, looks like your daughter was lucky to come out alive though!

She got knocked around and a few bruises. Luckily she had just dropped off a passenger.
The tow truck driver knows him so I'll see if I can get info that way.
I'd settle out of court if he contacted me but if I go to court I gonna ask for twice what I want.
The courts are pretty useless as far as contact info is concerned (I've used them before) but good for getting money if he has a job. (he does)
The TA report should have all his details also.

That was her pride and joy which was one of my project cars for her.
I only put another motor in it 3 months ago.

It isn't the car so much - its this prick who wont even return my calls. Not even a call to see if she is alright and he was 3 times over the limit.

Thank God your daughter is okay. That's the main thing. The car can be replaced.

Around here, drunk driving is a very serious offence and the courts are not lenient.

Three times the legal limit? I'd shoot him. In the leg at least...

I just can't understand drinking and driving. How hard is it to call a cab, walk home, or ask for a ride? Why would anyone drink and drive? Why do people still do this?

I think if you are found drinking and driving instance loss of license for the rest of your life, and your car sold off and funds given to the city where you were found. and made it illegal to ever register a car again. if you hit someone and are found to have been drinking should be shot on site and all your property should be sold to compensate the person you hit.

Because Canada, America and Austraila don't have laws like Romania!! We coddle drunks here! It's a disease you know. If the laws were that stringent here it would take about a year to clear the roads of drunks and we would all be safer! I'm speaking as someone who used to drive intoxicated so I am not on some moral soapbox. I still drink but I don't drive and wont. It's a choice, even for the alcoholics.

To clarify, I am not just talking about "drunks". You have one beer, take the bus, it is that simple, there is just no reason to drink and drive, the days of "one for the road" are over.
