|
|
Hi, I've just found a pool of liquid under my car which turned out to be fuel leaking out the air filter casing. When I removed the filter there was a lot of fuel sitting in the bottom of the housing (2-3mm).
Is this likely to be a leak within the distributor, or could it just be travelling back from the inlet/injectors. I have got an extra injector in the intercooler piping, but the fuel would have to run down to the intercooler in front of the radiator and then back up to the turbo and then on to the fuel distributor, which seems very unlikely!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have a rally this weekend, and I'd rather not have to use my fire extinguishers _________________ Andrew

with the factory CIS box on an NA car I couldnt see fuel in the air filter box from anything other than a leaky seal in the fuel dizzy, take it off and see if you can find the leak _________________ 3 928s, |

if you just remove the box and then jumper the fuel pump relay (pop out the injectors first), then raise and lower the arm in there you may just be able to see the leak in action esp with how much of a leak it sounds like you have. _________________ 3 928s, |

Thinking out loud here... I wonder if with the increased airflow due to the turbocharging, if the metering plate now travels further than it used to, somehow resulting in a leak from around the fuel dists' metering rod (aka-control plunger). The check would be as Lizard mentioned, jumper fuel pump relay, pull the air metering plate up as far as it will go, look for a leak from bottom-center of the fuel dist. While you're at it of course check it in the opposite direction as well - overtravel in that direction should be limited by a stop below the plate, so if it leaks that way, verify that the stop is in place. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. Thanks for the ideas.
I did the tests suggested and everything checked out ok. I then noticed that the puddle of fuel on the ground hadn't evaporated......
I put some oil flush in it over the weekend and then replaced the running in oil with synthetic. On closer investigation the liquid was very similar to the thinned oil that was removed yesterday!!!
I've just taken it for a long thrash and surprise surprise - nothing in the airbox afterwards!
The drive has exposed another problem in that my wastegate no longer works, but that's another story for another post.
Thanks Lizard and Smoothie for your input. _________________ Andrew
