Well, I finally... FINALLY got my car back.. in my OWN POSSESSION!!! It has been done since mid-late December, then we sent the bill to the parts store(whole 'nother story there) and finally last Monday my dad picked the car up.

Today, he dropped er off at my duplex while I was working. So I take it go eat this evening and everything seems to be running smooth. On my way home, I notice my temp gauge, its PEGGED.. and I'm like oh shit.. and I limped it home. I was only a mile from home. Well I get home and theres a freaking puddle of coolant dripping from under the car!

I'm beyond pissed right now.

Did you narrow it down to an exact location of the leak?

How can I help, man I feel for you. That just sucks.

Don't push her off a cliff, just get her fixed! - Hope its something you can do yourself.

Well in 2 years and 5000 miles, I've replaced the valves 3 times, the turbo and had a few "inbetween" problems..

Unfortunately, it was dark out so I couldn't really find exactly where it was coming from, and I couldn't get on my back. However the puddle is basically under the front of the engine not form the radiator, but its on the lower hose thats by the oil pan/cross member. Its not coming from that hose, it seems to be coming from a bit higher up.

When I got home and popped the hood, there was a good amount of steam, and you could hear it sissling/hissing from behind the alternator/down a bit lower...

Well I know I had a problem with my car when I first got her - the radiator was leaking. I end up replacing the radiator as part of the repairs. Then upgrading the fans.

If that ends up being the some of it you shouldnt have to much trouble, I did mine laying in the grass in my yard with the car lifted on one side.

Chin up, long as its the rad or a hose, should be cake to fix. Lets just hope that is the end of her problems.

Well I do hope I split a radiator hose or something... I didn't see any hose actually tore off or anything.

I guess since this week is my spring break, and I dont have to do anything for the next two days, see if I cant figure this out..

Otherwise my dad actually told my mechanic that there was a few drips when they got it home but they thought it was just becauswe it was over filled.

I'm gonna give him a call tomorrow and see what he says..

Its wierd that my dad drove it an hour over to my place and it didn't over heat.

Nothing to do with the overheating, but based on the history of your car:

Please check and make sure they have the timing belt on correctly by lining up the marks and looking for yourself.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and guess it's the water pump. Sounds like that's the area you're describing. My guess would be the seal in your pump was on it's last legs and when the shop refilled the cooling system, that put enough additional stress on the seal to push it over the edge. Look for the leak by the pin hole near the water pump shaft.

On second thought, check the hose coming from the heater valve that runs under the intake manifold. There's a steel pipe that connects the heater valve to the water pump. This is more directly behind the alternator as you describe. Maybe they forgot to tighten a hose clamp in there.

hope it gets fixed, and hope it's something simple like a water pump or something like that. Best luck mate.

Probably just a split hose or a slipped hose, nothing major I'm sure.

Well I got on my back this morning and it looks like the lower radiator to water pump hose is the one with the most coolant dripping from it... I went to autozone and tried to order a hose for it, their computers aren't very discriptive but we got the one that most closely described the one I think I may need.

I also bought some anti-freeze so im gonna fill it up and start it up and see if that hose is the one with the leak.

I hope its not my water pump, it was working just fine before this last rebuild, my car barely ever got to half way on the temp gauge, only when it would sit and idle or be in bumper to bumper traffic... soon as it got some fresh air it was back down about 1/4 way on the gauge.

What would be the best way to test and see which hose(and if infact it is the one i'm thinking it is) is cracked, w/o wasting 9$ on a gal of coolant..
