Hello Everyone! I ended up getting a new member ID as I had not posted on the boards for probably more than than two years. Here's a quick background...

I purchased my Porsche 924 during the winter of 2002. The car was in horrible shape and had been heavily abused, only being fixed when it was damaged and wouldn't run... Eventually it was simply parked in a garage for 6-8 years with all fluids drained except for the transmission fluid. After a few days of work the car still failed to start for obvious reasons so I took it to a “whole in the wall mechanic,” the best kind, who had worked on British race cars in the past, in order to get it running and reliable. I worked a few months during my last year of high school to bring the car back to a decent condition.

I drove the 924 back and forth to high school my senior year and then as a daily driver at college for three years until the fuel pump blew (repaired now) and gas prices sky rocketed for premium. I ended up parking the car for two winters during college, which was okay considering I was living on campus. I recently went overseas and lived in Southern Australia for studies for half a year. So, my 924 has been sitting about and will hopefully be getting some attention soon.

This is where the car stood when I purchased it for $730.

Interior: Broken seats, faded interior vinyl and plastics, badly cracked dash, dirty carpets, water damage, ripped door panels, damaged pedals, shift knob, and steering wheel, loose linkage, destroyed sound system and the entire thing smelled of musty premium fuel and exhaust fumes.
Exterior: Badly faded paint, minor dents, spots of rust due to a previous battery explosion, scratches, paint chips and horrible front fenders.
Mechanical: Blown air-conditioning system, failing water pump, worn belts and the suspension was gone.

The work:

Interior: I removed the entire interior except the dashboard because I knew it would be absolutely horrible to put back in the car. I took the old carpets out of the car in order to make a new set. I made patterns of the original carpets with newspapers, tape, Sharpie marker and a carpet razor. I used Duplicolor Vinyl Spray to refinish most of the vinyl and plastic surfaces inside the car and later applied clear coat to the plastics. Custom seat covers were made in order to rebind the damaged seats and then secondary seat covers were placed over the reconstructive covers. I shortened the shifter by 2.75 inches, beveled the edges and then placed a new knob on the stick by tapping it with a rubber mallet. The dash cap saved my dash and was very simple to install, however, it does have its issues as the lower pieces around the gauges pop out on a regular basis still. I replaced the sound system with Pioneer’s 4400 deck, 4x6's and 6x9's.

Modified seats and seat covers
Modified door panels
Custom carpet set
Custom rear deck and surround
Grant steering wheel and extender
Carbon fiber Shift knob
New Pedals
Duplicolor Vinyl Spray
Pioneer DEH-P4400 CD Player,4x6, 6x9
3M spray adhesive
Dash Cap
Cargo-net

Exterior:
The exterior was repaired using 3M lite body filler for a majority of the dents after dents were pulled/pushed out. Coreless paint was used in hopes of preventing future rust. The car was primered in and repainted Porsche Gaurds Red by a friend.

Thanks!

The pictures that are posted are after the car was restored. The steering wheel and door handles are now black as they should be.
