Hi

This is my first post on this forum.

I am about to swap a califonia 95hp engine with a restored 125hp euro version in my '77 924.

The Ignition Distributors are different. On the California version there is a smal dual electrical connector, part of the TCI system on the Bosch distributor. This distributor does not have the OEM Porsche part number. Where on the euro version there is the "standard" distributor with one single flat electrical contact.

Which is the best for my new engine? And would it be easy to rewire to suit the standard distributor?

Edit: Also another matter. On my car there is a red high performance coil. There are two wires, black/with a single yellow stripe that is not connected anywhere. Should those wires be connected anywhere?

Hi, Torro.

Welcome to the board. You're from California, right?

It sounds to me like you've got the later, optical stype of distributor, so I'd stick with that if I was you. (The other type you're describing is the earlier on with mechanical points.)

As for the coil, you only need two connections for the engine to run. One feed from the ingition circuit (15) and one to the 'points' (or equivanlent). Ther may also be connections for ballast resisitors. You really need to get the wiring diagram for your type of car.

Thank you for the reply.

Okey, I will stick with the updated TCi distributor.

I am in Norway. The car was importet from overseas a few years ago, but I have just gotten it.

The wiring on my car for the ignition does not match the '77 described in the factory repair manual, but it might be wiring for a couple of resistors. I was hoping someone else had noticed the black/yellow stripe wire:) (one wire that is splitted in two with a round shoe at the ends).

Sounds like an 'unofficial' modification to me...
