Hello

I have a 79 mod Na, the engine is bad... I have found crashed 84 mod. who has a good engine.

Is there any differences between a 84 and 79 mod?
Besides from K-jetronic Cis on the 79 mod. And Lambda based system on the 84 mod.

Can i still use the mechanical K-jetronic?

Use the long block + from the crashed 84 924 (engine block with head, intake, exhaust manifold, alternator, and ac compressor) with the fuel injection, and ignition distributor from your 79.

The 84 has better (more advanced fuel injection, emissions, and ignition systems) but would require you to move the complete systems from the crashed car to yours to be able to use any parts from the newer systems.

Over here if you put a later model engine in a car all the emission control stuff has to go in as well that goes with the new engine.

Legally, that's how in works in the US also.

BUT, who is going to be able to tell, if all you use is the long block?

Progress...
The parts car:

Its actually a good engine, new clutch\starter etc..

Most gone

Homemade support to the axle:

I am using this to lift out the engine:

Gone:

And so i had to start on the other car:

The crossmeber and steering has to go down, so i have space to lift and drag the engine

Ready for lift:

I am going to use fuel injection and ignition distributor from my 79mod.

Switching of fuel lines and wiring harness in progress.. The only difference was the oil pressure switch

Some hours later; The 84` engine is in place in my 79`924

Almost ready for start, i have also taken the distributor from the 79`engine.

Tomorrow i am going to try start it

mixture OK? - otherwise, the distributor has a vacuum advance doesn't it? - is this connected? - not sure whether this would affect it - is the vacuum pipe connected, will it advance the dissy?

what about the idle screw, have you adjusted it?

When you replaced the distributor, how did you set the timing?

Rough/Initial timing would be to set the crankshaft TDC (top dead center), with the camshaft at the marks (pointer on the valve cover pointing to the mark on the back of the camshaft timing gear) and the distributor to fire on the #1 cylinder (rotor pointing to the mark on the top edge of the distributor housing that is visible when the distributor cap is removed).

After getting the engine running at TDC, you can advance the distributor slightly, as the Euro engines are specc'd to run at 10 degrees BTDC. Not too much as you don't want to cause engine knock (pre-detonation) due to too much timing advance.

You will need a timing light to finalize your ignition timing, but this should get you running.
