Does anyone have the dimensions for the 924 GT hood scoop?
I would be very much obliged if you could post them.
Thanks |

Peter, if you made it functional out of carbon fiber and ran it to your intercooler, that would be AWESOME! _________________ '79 924 now Totaled! Carrera GT bodywork for sale!

You are going to cut your hood and make it functional right? _________________ '79 924 now Totaled! Carrera GT bodywork for sale!

Yes N-Dub, both the hood and hood scoop will be functional.
OutOfTheBox posted an excellent link pertaining to optimizing intercooler (“IC”) ducting and cold air flow in the performance section under my intercooler post. Based upon my understanding of the article, I am on the right track by following what the factory did: top mounted IC w/ hood scoop. Furthermore, it’s important to realize under what conditions you are using the IC. I mainly run on technical tracks, with short straights, but many turns, up hills, down hills, etc, and generally see speeds of only 60-110 (max) MPH. So, I want a hood scoop that sticks up high and deflects as much air as possible into the IC. The article rules out NACA ducts for use on ICs, because the NACA duct mainly draws in the slow moving “boundary air,” which if this air encounters any resistance, such as by an IC, will be push back out.
Unfortunately, the hood scoop I purchased, along with the GT style or imitation GT style hood scoops are not tall enough for my purpose. My ideal hood scoop would be short to sit between the NACA duct and the windshield, but have an opening about 3” high. Nothing crazy like the US domestic muscle cars of the ‘60s and ‘70s, but something a little more “functional” than the Honda-type aesthetic hood scoops regularly available.
I may be forced to make my own hood scoop. At Barnes & Nobles, there is a metal fabrication book, which talks about fabricating custom automotive sheet-metal parts, and gives step-by-step instructions on fabricating a GT-style hood scoop. I figure I can attempt to make one out of cardboard and either glass it over with resin and fiberglass or attempt to copy the form onto sheet metal. A lack of time is my only enemy.
I am leaning more toward a Subaru STi WRX style hood scoop (naturally modified to fit my needs)….

…. And not too pronounced

Of course, it will be a DIY project, so I am not about to spend $$$$ for a hood scoop.

…. Or even an STI WRX roof vent

Heck, even a VW looks good in a STi hood scoop http://bakersdozenracing.com/Pictures/albums/userpics/Dexter/Blood%20and%20Guts/normal_123_2389.JPG

Anyway, if I can find one cheap, I will buy it and cut-it-up to size. Something like this, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-FIBERGLASS-WRX-STI-STYLE-HOOD-SCOOP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33646QQihZ015QQitemZ250000912584QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW except shipping will kill you!
Of course, there are STi imitation hood scoops for a lot cheaper http://store.43folders.com/automotive-15709541-B00085F4NU-Jeep_Wrangler_Air_Scoop_Dark_Smoke
http://www.quadratec.com/products/13006_11.htm
There are so many hood scoop options that you can get sick.
Anyhow, I think I took up enough bandwidth, so when it’s finally done, I will post a picture. If anyone has any suggestions for a hood scoop, feel free to post. Of course, nothing like this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10002&categoryId=59344&parent_category_rn=&showValue=3&JegsPopup=CategoryDisplayPopup |
