Was under the bonnet (hood) and noticed that my cam had ENGLAND stamped on it - are they all made in England? or has mine been frankensteined before!

Indeed. An aftermarket cam is about all I can come up with too. Though I guess its not beyond the bounds of possibility that the OEM part was manufactured in the UK. After all, Britain still had a manufacturing industry back then! _________________ Pete

The drive sprocket is not part of the cam and normally is not supplied with the cam. So a guess would be that the part is UK manufacture or specific to UK applications. Anyone check for different part numbers? _________________ John

well, that's the bizzarre thing, I checked that the turbo cam was the same as the na cam before swapping them, but I don't believe I looked at the part num on the cam itself. hmm, is that it in the pic? _________________ 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 arctic silver & red

The cam timing wheel is separate to the cam. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

May be beating a dead horse; but just to clarify. The picture is not of the cam. The part with 'England' is the sprocket or drive wheel. Remove the bolt and pull it off.
And, yes, the cam is the same for na and turbo alike. _________________ John

PET shows the cam sprocket part number for an '85 924 (yours is an '86, right, Sean?) as 049 109 111 C.
The number stamped on your spocket shows it's an earlier 'A' variant and so must pre-date you car by quite a bit. _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

no, you're not beating a dead horse, I got it the first time!
and yes, I know the cam is the same.
and apologies for the messed up terminology. I was, of course, referring to the cam sprocket.
I won't remove the bolt and pull it off as it works a treat, but thanks anyway. It was merely an observation - I have far too much to be getting on with, taking a pic of it was a brief respite in the number of tasks I'm up to my neck in! _________________ 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 arctic silver & red

yeah, as mentioned it came from an '81 turbo, as unfortunately the sprocket on my cam which was attached to my cylinder head previously was bent... (sprocket wheel appeared to wobble) - due to this and to the fact that I had the problem with the tappet, I simply switched the cam and sprocket together from the 931 head. (after having checked PET for compatibility of course) _________________ 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 arctic silver & red
