|
|
| Hello again guys. Im back for more of your expert advise. Well I dug into the sunroof "stuff". One of the gears was completely stripped. Thats an easy enough fix. The other problem Im having is that the motor only goes one direction. It only pulls out the cable. It wont go into the housing. Im assuming the motor is okay and it is either a switch or sensor or relay problem. I dont even know where to start. Any advise would be appreciated. Also, is ebay the best place to buy a left wind deflector hinge. Thanks again guys. |

All 924 cars with sunroofs (with the exception of the 87-88 924S) came with manually operated sunroofs.
You need to ask your questions about power operated sunroofs on either the RennList, or Pelican Message Boards. |

Gohim, that's where you're wrong. My '84 924 has electrically operated sunroof. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Then that would be a clear difference between the U.S. market 924 and cars made after Porsche stopped importing them to the U.S.
I have inspected at least a dozen U.S. spec cars that were privately imported between 1983 and 1985 (model years 83-85), and while all of them had sunroofs, none of them were powered.
Still, you will get better advise on the care and repair of powered roofs where 944 people gather. There just aren't that many people on this board with cars that have powered sunroofs, compared to the other sites that I mentioned. |

also, could it be the microswitch? - there's a microswitch located in the centre of the headlining, in front of the sunroof. Its there to detect whether the roof is in place or not, the idea is that the prong at the centre of the front of the removable panel depresses the switch when the roof is in. These microswitches do fail - but its possible I guess that this decides which direction your motor pulls? Not entirely sure, but worth checking out... _________________ 1998 BMW Z3 2.8 arctic silver & red

The motor also has 2 microswitches.
Check operation of all the switches using a meter and that you are getting power to the relays. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

If you don't care about having an electric sunroof ( I don't really care) you can convert it to a manual sunroof which I've heard is pretty easy, you just replace the rear raising arms with manual latches from a manual sunroof they are suppose to just fit on the electric roof. _________________ 78 924 sold.
