|

Does anyone know if this model radio or any newer porsche decks will work in a 924? I read that the CDR-220 works in a 944, so I would think it should fit and work ok. Any ideas? _________________ 1980 931 |

As far as I know, all the new aftermarket head units (decks) only require adequate power. So, provided the head unit will physically fit in the centre console area and doesn't have any extreme power requirements (i.e. it doesn't have an integral 1000W-per-channel amplifier or something silly like that ), then it should work just fine.
But the newer Porsche head units, like, from a new Boxster or 911 or whatever, are probably custom units and will not be transferrable to the 924. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

CDR220 works on 924, though you'll have to watch the model you're looking at to have the LCD with the right offset: as ours are sitting down low and they are made for the car. As they're all Beckers it really isn't a big problem because you can update the software on the unit to have "the right" viewing angle.
I did put a Becker Traffic Pro (or a Porsche Traffic Pro) on my wifes 924 and it works flawlessly. More, imo Beckers (and certain Blaupunkts) are the only units that suit in Porsche really good. I don't like that "bling-bling" head-units with silver panels and flashing lights It's just not Porsche.
Here's one from my friends 951, it's Porsche Traffic Pro.

Raceboy, out of curiousity, how do you arrange the speaker connections w/ your wife's Traffic pro. The 924 has the center speaker and then 2 rears, right? It looks like the person who owned my car previously had an aftermarket deck because I bought the car w/o a radio and I can see some aftermarket speaker wire, however, when they took the deck out, they just cut the wires so I dont have the factory harness. Would I need to get one to hook up the cdr-220 or could I just cut the harness in the back and splice the corresponding wires together? Thanks for your help! You are right, these are the only radios that look fitting. _________________ 1980 931 |

I have later 924 and it has 4 speakers. I changed the ones in the door for stock sixe, but newer 2-band units and I have subwoofer also.
Becker has subwoofer out that can be used as a center speaker (at least so does Becker manual says), but it needs amplifying because it's a line-out. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

I have a Kenwood with the rotating face plate. no bling bling.
You can adjust the angle that the face plate stops at, so it very well suited to the 924, you can also change colours and contrast.
I have had 4 Kenwood units for last 10 years, and never had a unit go dead on me.
Had cigarette ash dumped into it, stuff left on the centre console that jammed when it rotated, if you upset it, it justs stops what its doing and switches off. |

I have a Blaupunkt radio and love it. it's so simple to use. I'm waiting for them to come out with an HD radio and I'll upgrade. But it works just fine and I wouldn't trade it for any other radio for under $200. (I payed $100.) _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

So true, before Becker I had Blaupunkt München CD43 with keycard and the design is also very good match to the Porsche interior. I didn't sell it, it wait's when I get my 931 on the road _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
