Thought I'd pass on the price for a new replacement windshield; as noted in the Racing forum, I smashed the original windshield on my racecar (in there since the car was built in '79, survived 6.5 years of racing!) so it must be replaced before I can run again.

Triumph/Diamond Auto Glass is coming out to do it, and the quoted price is $195, installed at my home, new with green (or whatever, don't care) tint band across the top.

The main part that sucks is that I'll lose my bada$$ "924.ORG" sticker at the top of the current windshield.

someone comp this guy a sticker!!!!

honestly, I would if my wife didn;t spend all my paypal money on a Little Tikes work bench for my 3 year old!

I do have those cool little stickers from the Volkwagon ad in this past weeks AutoWeek. But those are going on my son's LittleTikes H2 when I get it back from the shop! He blew out the left motor drifting, yes drifting, in my driveway - lol - too funny. (i'll post a video when we are back in action)

lol - its funny watch him rag that little H2. It has two gears and for a while he was scared of gear 2 (the faster one). But when the neighbors daughter - who has the LittleTikes Jeep - jumped in the driver seat and said "wow two gears" and sped of with my son clinging to life in the passenger seat its just never been the same.

Any pics of the green tint? That's the same glass that Safelite told me they have. I haven't made the call to have them come out and replace mine yet (isn't sealing well). I'm curious what the green looks like?

ps - don't throw your steering wheel at it anymore!

Well, I'm thinking that the new windshield will be stronger and better able to handle the impact...

Maybe now we know why real racecars have lexan windshields?

If I were going to the trouble of buying a new windshield, I would ask the price of the slightly larger, late model glass, and seriously consider switching to a flush mounted windshield.

The hole for the windshield frame is the same size, all you need is the seal and the spacers.

I broke my windshield last year putting the stock trim on it So when I got another new window put in I had them put a Universal rubber trim on. It looks SO good and even matches the shape of the a pillar moldings. I can post a pic if anyones wants to see it.

Yeah, I'd be interested to see the pic... I still have to get around to replacing the rubber stuff that fills in the gap on the side rails.

As for the glass selection - talking with a guy at the glass shop, he confirmed that they use the same fitment for the 944... so then it's just down to installation. It's getting done this afternoon - so I'm not going to worry about trying to set up a flush-mount system. Besides, that then becomes protestable, on a racecar!

This type of trim has to be installed before the window goes in..as it has a channel that clips over the edge of the glass. It was very cheap to buy...they didn't even charge me extra for it. My window installed was 180.00...no tax

If I am planning to have my car painted back to the original colour (after removing 2 repaints), should I just remove the windsheild, have all the body and paint work done, then take it in for a replacement windsheild?

I would have the window out..then get any rust gone. Then paint the car with the window out. It does a much better job.
