|
|
(A quick heads up for anyone looking for a cheap 36-1 crank
Trigger wheel (Ford EDIS application). The Reverse Input clutch
Plate and backing plates on the 700R4 auto tranny (Chevy) are 36
Tooth rings of approx 6.4"OD and 5.1"ID. They can be had from
Most any tranny shop for about $5.)
I found this is another forum-I forgot which one but I did not want to steal the credit for the idea.
I Just got 2 for $4.00 because they were thin (about 1/8th")and I might need the double thickness for the sensor.
I'm hoping the extra width will rise above the crank pulley to clear other conductive metal areas. They are light and the best yet- no bruised hands from an old junk removal.

Real ones are pretty cheap, seems like a lot of trouble. The real ones are a good 1/4" steel. You still need to shave off a tooth too.

$23 + ship. Probably cheaper still at the junk yard.

I'll get one more. Together all three will be a perfect 1/4". He's selling them for $2.00 each. The reason I like this ring instead of the one off of the Ford is that they are slightly larger than the radius of the ac pulley. I'm hoping it will be easier to line up and mount. The extra tooth should just grind right down.
Its not trouble but the opposite- too much fun!!! My wife was laughing at me because I was too happy to find them and kept showing her with a big cheesy smile. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

Here it is- a couple rivets and it’s on. I could not wait to clean it up to post a picture.
The 700R4 is a little bigger than the outside ring. I squared off the rings but I don't think it was necessary. I still have some more cleaning up to do.
The ring actually has a prevalent type ring guide inside and below the 700R4 teeth. It is an exact match to the pulley OD so mounting was ez. I set it up with epoxy following the guide the night before and plan to drill for the rivets today. I'm happy.

cool, there has been some research done on this kind of thing as well, turns out that the EDIS4 system is pretty lenient, like they tested a 36 toothed saw blade for example and it returned a usable signal.

Nice job! Nice way to get around some of the mounting problems. Should work well for you and others here who have considered converting to EDIS but don't know what to do about the hardware problems.
