|
|
I ordered and replaced the OEM spring mount with a new Vibratech POR174M.
I am really pleased with it. Many thanks to simsport who originally mentioned them in a post and answered my questions and also 924RACR who looked them over before I ordered.
Installation was easy. They can be purchased individually and swapped in either side. I purchased just the replacement spring side and it was $135.00 shipped to my door in a few days.
The rpm buzz is gone the muffler bang is gone. I'm thrilled. Take a look.
to order email John Wright
vibratechnics.leic@gmail.com
For the discounted price mention 924.org
Anyone from the site can go direct to order since there are no distributors in the US.
Here is his Email to me.
Greetings Bill,
We do not have a distributor in the USA, we have sold some 924 mounts direct (one set last month to California) but maily we sell VW mounts in the US (previously through New Dimensions in California). We have sold several 924 sets to racers in this country, France and Australia and a few sets for road use.
We will gladly supply you a pair and we would consider a group buy from your forum members - assuming we could ship them all to one location to minimise shipping cost.
As we say in the description of our mounts, they reduce engine movement and they are stiffer than the OE parts therefore you can expect some increase in noise transmission into the cabin. Also you will feel an increase in vibration - the level is governed the smoothness of your engine and obviously varies from car to car and to the sensitivity of the driver.
Price to you for a pair £108.80 + shipping £25.00.
one part will cost £13.58 airmail to you. Plus £54.40 for the part.
Parts are in stock and we take credit card payment.
We would consider 5 sets and above for a group buy at £100/pair.
Regards
John Wright

What? Replacing an engine mount seems pretty straight-forward to me (have done it several times ) _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Sadly, I've looked in the rulebook, and no option (for me) to use anything other than stock (which are new, though not the trans mounts - yet). _________________ Vaughan Scott

I just received a new Email from John after asking him about this.
| Quote: | Regarding the trans there is little change really - the whole lot is bolted up as one unit so any vibration generated within it can be isolated from the chassis by a damped spring system. If the isolation is reduced (by fitting stiffer mounts) more vibration is transmitted to the chassis, the vibration source does not change. As our front mounts reduce engine movement this will also reduce some movement at the trans and therefore give the trans mounts a slightly easier time.
Hope this helps
Regards

I have sent augidog a couple of photos of the basic but effective mod I made when I had the snailshell 931 box. Could you please post them for me...still not good as this picture hosting stuff!
Cheers

Thanks for posting the shots (I did say it was basic!).
The plates stop the side to side movement. I had also thought of using thinner spring steel plate to allow some flex if this felt too harsh.
If you use solid plate then you might have to very slightly elongate the mounting holes for the mounts to allow them to sit neater to the sides of the gearbox as you have effectively taken out the standard flex.
In truth I had no problems and this mod coupled to the engine mount change made the car feel more stable when changing direction.
Of course it is a race car, I am not sure it is needed for a road car.
Cheers

Neat idea, thanks for posting the pics. I shall have to see if there's an opportunity to do similar things with my Audi-geared car (now that it's converted from snailshell). _________________ Vaughan Scott

These are close enough. Paint em black.
I like these and they are not all that expensive (compared to oem). _________________ John

Another concern is the dwindling supply of new motor mounts for the 924. Last time I talked to EBSracing, there was only one left hand motor mount still availible. According to porsche at least.

True - they do look pretty close (good thing they're nicely made). Though I would prefer not to lose a race win, at the high level, due to some silliness like this. Thankfully I at least already have stock new ones... _________________ Vaughan Scott
