i've looked a thousand times, and the haynes manual picture is about as helpful as an elephant in a shopping trolley (?) and i'm damned if i can find my engine number!

anyone got a nice photo of the engine bay with the number circled or something?

It should be on a machined-flat surface near the flywheel timing window - intake side of the engine, below the coil, just before the bellhousing.
