|
|
I've actually been thinking about making this post or just trying it and posting it later, but I wouldn't even know where to begin. What I'm looking to do is:
1. Come up with some type of Cruise Control system for the 924, as I really miss it.
2. Convert my locks now, to power locks. This can be done with an alarm system, and one of my best friends/roommate happens to be pretty good with alarms and stuff. I'm really just wondering if anyone has installed an alarm on their 924 and has any suggestions as to what type or brand would be best. I'd like keyless entry..
So any ideas on how to accomplish these two goals? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

My '81 924 n/a has add on cruise control. It was put on by the previous owner. The paperwork says Volkswagen Products Corp. in Ft Worth, Texas. Part number is ZPW 201 708. The switch goes on the stalk, and looks factory with a little modification. I know some 924's had factroy cruise, but not sure which ones. As far as power locks and alarms, I know the aftermarket has it, but I don't run either, so I can't make a suggestion. _________________ Shut up fool, those are mine. |

i've never run an alarm, but any reputable brand will be fine. keyless entry is easy. you can buy the kits at most electronics retailers if you want to DIY.
cruise control i'm not so sure about. never really liked it anyway, but i dont do a lot of long haul highway driving, so i guess it doesn't matter anyway
good luck with this.
as far as modernising it, i reckon climate control would be great. _________________ 1978 924 N/A

I have alrm system om my 924 83'!
It's cheap one's (I had it for about 50euros)!
I do't know what's brend, but think it's Eagle master or something like it!
U can remove outside door handles & moun "central look" motors on inside handle ingot, and in corner of door mount spring for "ejection"!
I have't yet do it on my car (waiting to do complete body work) , but I do that often on friends car!
If u whant to remove handles and lockres from youre car, I have one good suggestion!
You can buy "hammer proof folio" for windows! |

On my wishlist I have got...
Open the trunk by a remote.
power windows
heated seats...cheaper than upgrading the heater
electrical powered 968 aero mirrors
966 door-handles
The last two would probably cost more than what I gave for the car _________________ -=Torro=- |

this is mildly off topic of this, but I've been thinking of making a fake alarm system, by replacing the lcok nob things with homemade ones that have a red flashing LED on them, which blink when the car is off. Maybe even add a sticker on the window that says Porsche alarm, or w.e

hmm. I will have to look at that. I would like to add keyless entry when I get all the other things sorted out.

My old automotives teacher once told us that his dad had a Jeep, and for cruise control, he had a solenoid. So he'd pusha button, and the solenoid would jam a rod down on the gas pedal, to keep it at the same speed. Don't do it though, it's redneck. |

Bought an aftermarket cruise control for about $180 au.
Comes with magnets, brackets, computer, motor and control.
Wire to magnets wasn't long enough cos its designed to go on a drive shaft and I fitted the magnets to the CV axle.
Control is the size of a matchbox with 3 buttons, on/off, set/accel, reume/decel.
You can see it on top of my centre console.
Computer bit goes under dash, motor goes in section next to heater fan and operates off vacuum.. all prewired with multi plugs.
Had to splice into brake switch and an extra switch is required for manual trans to go on the clutch pedal.
Actually easy to fit. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
