Heard some talk that the recessed the connections require crush ring gaskets. Do these look like pure rings? Or, are they supposed to be able to adjust to the pressure applied, which would suggest the "crush" name?

The tech section mentions a "fill-in ring" , I would tend to think that this is a steel ring.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

If we are talking about the crush ring between the turbo and the manifold, it is indeed a crush ring and should be used only once. When you look at it from the side, it is U shaped.

Actually the crush rings are round when you buy new ones.

They become u-shaped (flat on one side and round on the other) if they are installed on a car that has a flat/flush mating surface on one side for a flat gasket, and a recess on the other side of the connection for a crush ring.

If you put a new crush ring into a place where there is a recess on both sides, after the ring has been torqued down, you will find the ring slightly flattens on both sides, and rounded on the outter and inner circumferences.

Crush rings are not made of rubber, you use them once (even if you just torque them down), and their done. Buy a new one, because the one you just crushed is not going to seal again.
