As the subject says above, i posted this last AUG 7. I have a 1979 U.S. spec 924. I finally used a IR thermometer to measure the temp of my ignition box(BOSCH # 0227-100-010) under the following conditions: Ambient temp 30-32*C (86-90*F). Drove car 25 mins. reaching car operating temp(temp needle at middle). I then stopped car(w/engine still running) and checked IGNITION BOX Temp- 47.2*C (117*F). I then placed my hand lightly on the box and felt it DEFINITELY wasnt as hot as compared to the past when i had the ignition on but engine off(also feeling the box w/my hand) . I`m strongly inclined to RC`s explanation about increased saturation time with the engine off and ignition on. But for peace of mind i would like to know if the ignition box temp under the above conditions is normal? What do you say RC? Others? THANKS!

Patrick, IMO a temp rise of 15-17*C above ambient is perfectly normal. Considering your under hood temp will be much higher anyway, engine at 80*, exhaust heat and of course the hot air blowing through the radiator, there`s very little rise from the unit itself.
Look for something else to worry about or better yet just drive the car and |
