|
|
Hey guys,
I've been trying to get a 924 to use as a daily driver and since it's not a super fast car, I thought it'd be easy to convince the parents. But they seem to not want anything with the name Porsche on it.
So anyways, I'm 17 and was curious how bad insurance would be for me if I got a 924? What would you guys say its comparable too? I'm assuming it'd be worse than a normal beater but how much worse? My current DD is a 1994 Geo Prizm...
Thanks guys. |

I'm pretty sure you can go online and get quotes. If not, pick an agent out of the phone book and call them. They can give you a quote over the phone.

I don't think you will find it that different from your current car. . .I was shocked when the turbo cost only $15 per month more than the NA! _________________ Toofah King Bad

When I got my 79 N/A with an auto about 8 years ago I was ready to get the slap in the face from my ins comp for ins a Porsche, but to my surprise when I transferred from a 1980 4dr Omni to the 924 my cost went down , the reason given me for this was " the car is slow". That was fine with me as long as they never saw how I drive the car
So the way to get them to agree is to have them check the cost, they will have a hard time saying no

Yeah, I think insurance for mine is about the same as a ford taurus. I am 17 also, so I doubt it would be much different.

Yeah, insurance varies so much region-to-region, etc. That sounds pretty decent to me; we're in the Detroit area, it definitively is the most expensive in the country for insurance, according to some recent study.
You don't need any collision, it's never worth it (you could buy a car a year for the cost), and having a non-turbo keeps the cost way down. Multi-car coverage also helps, but if you were to add it to your parent's policy, I think their rates would go up having you on there as well as a teen driver - unless you already are. _________________ Vaughan Scott

| hey, im 18 and i just got my 924 insured through all-state for about $115 per month. the only thing that kinda sucked was that they made me pay in advance for 6 months, also i dont have any kind of roadside service or anything extra, just what i need to be able to drive it legally.. which i think is liability? anyways its pretty cheap. |

Our carriers must be quite different. I had been carrying the minimum, but frustration over a stolen and vandalized car led to me check into the actual cost. With multi-policy and multi-car discounts, it was less than $20 more per year for 4 vehicles to have full coverage!
Our carrier is Allstate, FWIW.

My insurance on my 87S is $60/month and I'm 20. Only $10/month more than my Audi and the same as my Escort. _________________ --Alex--

When I got my NA, it dropped our (wife and I) insurance by $50/year. She insured on '02 Buick Regal GS and I on the NA. We have Progressive. A co-worker said he has State Farm and has his corvette as a "recreational vehicle" and he and wife is insured on their regular cars and doesn't pay extra for the 'vette. I may look into that. _________________ Rob

gee, you guys are lucky.
in australia, the porsche badge alone means you have to be 30. I tried to explain that it was a NA 2l car, less powerful than a falcon, but they would have none of it, so i was restricted to the equivalent of dodgy brothers insurance agency, and it still wasnt cheap.
i think it costs me about $AUD 400 a year for basic third party. _________________ 1978 924 N/A

I'm in Australia, I'm pretty sure mine's $430-ish for Third Party property, plus fire and theft with Suncorp. A bit of a change from my old beetle, that was about $130 _________________ '68 VW bug

Wow, they're really screwing you guys down there! Even in rip-off Britain, I'm only paying £170/year fully comprehensive (limited mileage, though) (~Aus $350). _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)
